When I contacted Glenn, Derek and Jason, they immediately agreed to give it shot. "I just felt the time was right for Black Country Communion to go back into the studio and write and record a new album. The initiative for the new album came from Joe Bonamassa, who contacted the band in 2016 to see if they would be up for going back into the studio to write and record a fourth album. Shirley, who originally had the idea of putting Hughes and Bonamassa in a band after seeing them jamming together onstage in Los Angeles back in November 2009 – is the group's unofficial 'fifth member'. This is the band's first studio album since 2013s 'Afterglow' and just like its three predecessors, was overseen by Kevin Shirley, whose catalogue of hit records for Led Zeppelin, Iron Maiden, Aerosmith, Journey, The Black Crowes and more has made him the hottest producer that rock music has to offer. 'BCCIV' will be Black Country Communion's fourth album and will be released via Mascot Records on Friday September 22nd 2017. Hughes sings about the coldness of grief and Bonamassa’s guitar takes Hughes’ emotional lyrics to another level. “Cold” is a Glenn Hughes penned track that appeared on BCC 2. A strong rock track and a definite highlight from BCC 2. Joe Bonamassa wrote “An Ordinary Son” and is on lead vocals for the track. The idea began when Bonham was working with Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones. “Save Me” is a track drummer Jason Bonham brought to the table and the riff has a heavy Led Zeppelin vibe. Derek Sherinian’s piano always shines here. The track came about spontaneously when Hughes and Bonamassa were having a jam. “Wanderlust” is one of the standout tracks from BCC IV. “Last Song For My Resting Place” is a song Joe Bonamassa wrote that was inspired by Wallace Hartley, who was a violist and bandleader on the Titanic. Joe Bonamassa channels his inner Paul Kossoff with a memorable riff and Hughes belts “My lack of faith has no shame, it is reckless and I know there’s no flame for the faithless.” Hadrian’s Wall was built by the Roman Empire and stretched over 70 miles across northern England. “The Battle For Hadrian’s Wall” was written by Joe Bonamassa and has Joe playing acoustic guitar. It has a memorable chorus and is one of the standout tracks on the Black Country Communion’s debut album. “Sista Jane” is a rocker with an AC/DC vibe featuring Glenn Hughes and Joe Bonamassa going back on forth with the vocals.
